Fishmobile

FISHMOBILE artwork is contributed by students of four Talbot County schools.

What's really easy, inexpensive, and tons of educational fun?
The FISHMOBILE!

Our Fishmobile (a converted bookmobile) can come to your school filled with LIVE specimens of Chesapeake Bay creatures. It’s better than a science book, better than a video, and in many ways better than a real field trip.

Why?  Because Fishmobile visits are cheaper, easier to set up, more time efficient, no parental consent is required, and no liability issues are involved.  Best of all, theanimals are always there for you when you want them.  You can build a lesson plan knowing what will be on hand.

The Fishmobile has more than displays and aquariums -- it also has touch tanks.  Children can touch or even hold living animals, including horseshoe crab and  diamondback terrapins.  The Fishmobile staff also can provide learning programs appropriate to any age group.

Tailored to Fit

Designed primarily for use with school-age children, the Fishmobile can be used successfully at summer camps, community meetings, retirement facilities, and even bithday parties.   We adapt our programs to meet your group's needs.

Education Modules

We offer structured, 50-minute education modules related to the Chesapeake Bay and maritime environmental issues.  These modules are aligned with State of Maryland performance standards.  Pre- and post-visit materials are sent to schools prior to our visit.

  • Oysters.  Learn how an oyster reef is created, what else lives there, how oysters  help the Bay, and harvesting methods.
  • Chesapeake Waters.  Explore the watershed, learn properties of water, water cycles, river names, and play “Who Polluted the Bay,” an activity showing how people can create pollution without being aware of it.
  • Fish.   Discover distributions, predator/prey games, migration, adaptations.
  • Horseshoe Crab.  Predator/prey games, make a horseshoe crab puppet, anatomy.
  • Blue Crab.  Examine the crab’s anatomy, compare blue and horseshoe crabs, learn its life cycle, harvest methods.
  • Turtles and Terrapins.  Adaptations, migration, predators and prey.
  • Birds.  Adaptations, migration, play “Build a Bird.”
