Areas of Support

Volunteers can help with all the work the Center performs, including Administration, Membrship Services, Public Relations, Visitor Services, and Education and Science Advisory.

Administration

Do you love the outdoors but not necessarily being outdoors? Then join Phillips Wharf Environmental Center and help improve your local environment from the comfort of your desk!   Volunteers must have an eye for detail and basic computer skills. Training is available.  The work can be done on site or from your home.

Membership Services

Would you like to meet new people and give back to your community in an exciting environment?   Use your skills to help Phillips Wharf Environmental Center consistently communicate with its members and participants.  Become part of PWEC’s membership team for general public services, programs and events.   You can help PWEC grow!

Public Relations

Are you a great communicator? Are you looking for a new project?  Then, Phillips Wharf needs you on our Public Relations team!    We are looking for volunteers with strong marketing and public relations skills to assist in the creation and development of Phillips Wharf Environmental Center’s new image.

Visitor Services

Did you know that a Diamondback terrapin can live up to 30 years? Or that the male oyster toadfish produces a foghorn-like sound to attract its mate?   If this kind of animal information intrigues you, then read on.

Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is launching a brand new volunteer program that could be exactly what you are looking for!   PWEC is seeking energetic and enthusiastic animal lovers to take part in the launch of an education-based volunteer program. If you enjoy working with people and learning about animals, this program is for you.

The primary role of Visitor Services is to engage visitors and enhance their experience by answering animal-related questions, interpreting animal behavior and delivering PWEC’s conservation messages. This can vary from answering general site questions (Where are the bathrooms?) to teaching visitors about an animal's adaptations.

Education and Science Advisory

Are you passionate about youth, volunteerism, and Bay education?   Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is a nonprofit organization that empowers youth to become today’s environmental stewards. We engage youth in service-learning opportunities that nurture their personal and professional development, bay education, and community involvement.
